Why Metalshop implemented a mobile app
Punk, rock and metal fashion lovers increased their online store visits from smartphones and tablets. They also did the shopping on these devices. Since January to July 2015 they raised the mobile sales in online store by 60% compared to the same period in previous year. To acquire a shopping application to the web optimized for mobile devices seemed as a way how to raise this number even more. And it turned out well.
How the application launch affected the sales
Metalshop launched the mobile app on Friday, 23rd July 2015. Nearly a hundred of users downloaded it during Saturday and Sunday even without investing into promotion, and the turnout from mobile devices tripled.
The number of the mobile app users kept rising continuously. In August and September it reached 1,781 (6% of all the mobile visitors). The sales from mobile devices were 156% higher compared to the previous year.

The conversion rate of the app was 9x higher (4,4 %) compared to the online store visits from mobile devices (0,52 %). With regard to installations it was nearly 12%.

What were the mobile sales in August and September like compared to the desktop ones? The turnout generated from desktop devices decreased by 2% in comparison with the same period in previous year. The total sales were 6% higher, thanks to the purchases made from mobile devices.
What the mobile app brought to Metalshop
- up to 4% higher sales,
- a database of 1,800 contacts to relevant customers and the possibility to address them directly with free notifications (messages displayed on mobile screen),
- it saved them time and costs that would be necessary with individual development,
- head start in competition.
